Note: Shaikh Abdol-Hameed’s words –both on stage and face-to-face meets– are attractive and interesting. He talks wisely with meditation, admonishes sincerely touching hearts, analyzes prudently, reminds some issues with sympathy, and we have learnt Shaikh narrates past’s stories very skillfully as well.
In the first session of this interview, Dr. Obaidullah Badpa, member of the editorial board of Neday Islam, and Molawi Thanaullah Shahnawaz, Executive Editor of the magazine, took part in the interview.

Neday-e-Islam: Dear Mawlana! It is a quarter of a century you have been theoretic and spiritual heir of late Mawlana Abdol-Aziz; as a successor, you are behind many Islamic services. Tell us about your first connection and acquaintance with him, please.
Shaikh-ul-Islam: By the name of Allah. I do not remember the exact date of late Mawlana Abdol-Aziz’s shift to Zahedan; when he chose Zahedan for abode, I was a young living in a suburb area of Zahedan. Firstly, he came for treatment of his father from Sarbaz. On a Friday, he talked to worshippers in Zahedan; it attracted people. They requested him to stay in Zahedan. After medical treatment of father, he informed his father, late Qadhi Abdullah, about the offer of people. His father ordered him to settle down in Zahedan. When I shifted to the city of Zahedan, I was 11 or 12. We used to hearken his discourses in the Grand Azizi Masjid of Zahedan. It was our first close introduction.

Neday-e-Islam: Have you studied any book directly from Shaikh Abdol-Aziz?
Shaikh-ul-Islam: No, I could not have this luck. But he was our mentor. I got education in Pakistan; when I came back, I started teaching in the same seminary. I got something from him as much as I could, within my capabilities.

Neday-e-Islam: Many points have been written on and heard about the life of the founder of Darululoom Zahedan, we would like to listen from you a comprehensive introduction of his features.
Shaikh-ul-Islam: I had met many scholars and dignitaries in Pakistan. When I returned Zahedan, I had concluded there was not any scholar equal to him. He had extensive personality; he was a perfect scholar with enough knowledge, wisdom and contraption. He was extremely pious; there was not any scholar of his level in Baluchistan at all. I had not seen such a great man in other regions as well. He had a unique cordial connection with the beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace & blessings be upon him. He really loved him wholeheartedly; I saw rarely this state with other dignitaries. I believe, if we take all moral features up, there is no one more comprehensive than Shaikh Abdol-Aziz in my opinion.
He was peerless in piety; he used to avoid even semi-Haram things. His bravery was unique as well. He was telling the truth wisely and bluntly. If any valorous man suffers from lack of wisdom, he would create problems. Mawlana Abdol-Aziz was a sane brave. He used to criticize invalid factions and movements very tactfully taking care of all dimensions.
Shaikh used to censure his time’s regime, but he never criticized Shah directly. He was saying it is the method of Prophet Abraham who did not demolish the big idol. He was rebuking other authorized men saying they were going against the will and intentions of Shah, king of Iran. However, all scholars of Deoband used to work discreetly avoiding to go to extremes. They were sober in their juridical stances and views as well. In the same way, Ulama of Deoband were level-headed in theosophy and mysticism. There was not any inanition in this succession and golden chain of sane dignitaries.
Mawlana Abdol-Aziz had a modest and tactful manner toward all sects; therefore, followers of different sects and groups put him their spiritual father! When he passed away, the Shia community was not abaft; they also mourned his demise by ardent threnodies. He did not allow anyone to create problems for any sect in Zahedan. After the demise of Shaikh Abdol-Aziz, Sikh residents of Zahedan used to say who would support us now? They had found late Mawlana a suitable person to resolve their problems; he always defended their rights.
