The most influential Iranian Sunni leader has urged on the engagement of Iranian Sunnis in higher posts ahead of the 12th presidential election in Iran.

Talking to tens of thousands worshipers in Zahedan, southeastern Iran, on Friday 12th May, he said: “The Presidential and City and Village Councils polls are important and vital for all. The city and village councils have a key role in building and developing of the city. We should use our right of vote well for welfare of all citizens.”

“The candidates and voters have some responsibilities regarding each other; people should work hard to vote for the best candidate and they should focus on the demands of people.”

He expressed his views on the necessity of alliance in the city and village councils and said: “Our opinion is to form alliance in the councils’ election. Zahedan is a city with Shia, Sunni, Persian and Balochi communities. Alliance is the sign of nations’ development; advanced nations negotiate and make alliance in elections.”

“In any alliance, all members may not be ideal, but the alliance itself is good for ensuring the interests of the society. Such coalitions can be obtained by open-mindness and tolerance. The best choice comes after unanimity and alliance,” the rector of Darululoom Zahedan pointed.

The coming president should make Sunni community ‘first-class citizen’ by act
Mawlana Abdol-Hamid went on to say more about the presidential election in Iran: “First of all we should vote for a candidate who ensures the interests of the whole Iranian nation domestically and internationally. We should choose the one who is wiser and stronger than others.”

“Our prospect is national and the Sunni community is also a part of the Iranian nation. No parts of the nation –which is like a body – should suffer; otherwise it makes the whole body anguished. The Iranian Sunni community has been suffering from the pain of discrimination; we need to elect a president who cares about our pains and lets this part of the body to heal up,” he added more.

The prominent Iranian Sunni leader underlined on voting for a candidate who “considers Iranian Sunnis as first-class citizen by act not only slogan and claiming”.

“We have fewer problems regarding developmental projects in Sunni-dominated areas, but the main demand of the Sunni community is about the employment of Sunnis in higher posts. There should not be any discrimination among the different communities in the country. Allah Almighty has no discrimination about His creatures and He puts His mercy on the rulers who behave with masses indiscriminately,” Shaikh Abdol-Hamid said.

The new government should resist ‘pressures’
Khateeb of Sunnis in Zahedan further said: “This is the due right of Sunnis and all Iranian ethnic and religious communities to engage their capable members in higher management of the country. We are Iranians and Iran belongs to all Iranians. It is not only the country of Sunnis, Shias or Persians; rather it is the country of all. Durable unity and peace depend on removing discrimination and equality for the nation.”

“The new president should resist the illegal pressures and implement the law completely. As Sunnis we present our all demands to ensure the maximum participation of people in the coming election. Thus a group of scholars and elites of the Iranian Sunni community gathered in Tehran to discuss the anxieties and demands of the Sunnis,” the most influential Iranian Sunni leader alluded to his latest trip to Tehran ahead of the 12th presidential election in Iran.

He added more: “Vote is a trust in our hand which should handed over to the right person. People should not be heedless about it. The Iranian nation now can easily recognize who is the best among the candidates. People are enough mature politically.”

“The period of election is the days of rumors and accusations. I’d like to advise all candidates and their supporters to avoid from accusations and rumors. Don’t destroy your everlasting life. Even do not respond to other’s offenses; otherwise the enemy will misuse it,” Shaikh Abdol-Hamid urged.

At the end of his speech, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid alluded to the death of a scholar from Zahedan in an accident took place in Quetta, Pakistan and demise of a young Baloch who is son of Haaj Gul-Ahmad, one of the squad of Grand Makki Masjid praying for them to the Almighty. The young man was killed after hunt by the police.

He addressed the police officials to take care of the people who smuggle some rolls of cloth due to financial problems. If the people hold legal goods which are not prohibited in Islamic jurisprudence, there should be forbearance and negligence.

Faith, good deeds measures of prosperity
In the first part of his sermon, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid termed ‘faith/Iman’ the biggest wealth for any person which can ensure the prosperity of mankind when it is accompanied with good deeds.

He began his speech by the recitation of the chapter Asr/Time of the Noble Qur’an and said: “Allah Almighty swears in the Qur’an by the time that all human beings are in loss surely. Then He excludes a group of mankind that they are prosperous; they are the ones who do not go to extremes. Sobriety in tenets and deeds is very important.”

After expressing the importance of good deeds for salvation, he said: “We should work hard to purify the society and say what is true. Apart from being good by tenets and deeds, they should struggle to remove corruption and vice.”

Shaikh Abdol-Hamid concluded his points by saying: “We should be vigilant avoiding from carelessness. We are supposed to call on people to fulfil the rights of the Almighty and His creatures.”
