The eminent Islamic scholar shed light on the importance of education and getting knowledge in his Friday sermon of 16th Sep. 2016 in Zahedan and termed education and edification of children the ‘most important duty’ of parents.

Mawlana Abdol-Hamid began his speech in the spiritual gathering of the Sunni worshipers by the Noble Qur’anic verse: “هل یستوی الذین یعلمون والذین لایعلمون” and said, “An Arab poet says ‘orphan is not the one who loses his parents, but the real orphan is the orphan of knowledge and edification’.”

“The most important responsibility of parents is educational and moral upbringing of children. Children should be equipped with knowledge and education; childhood, adolescence and youth are the prime times for learning. Children should learn different sciences –including the Noble Qur’an, rulings of Islam and sciences in seminaries and universities- in that duration,” he underlined.

The Hadith teacher at Darululoom Zahedan –the biggest Islamic learning center of the Iranian Sunni community- alluded to the second duty of parents regarding children and said more, “Parents are supposed to meditate and plan for the endless life of children, as well as their worldly life. Non-Muslim and disbeliever parents only plan for the mortal life of their children and struggle only for their prosperity in the worldly life. But Muslim parents are thoughtful about the both lives of the children.”

“The Almighty Allah has ordered us to save our children and family members from the fire whose wood is human beings and stones. It is the duty of all caretakers,” he added more.

The prominent Islamic scholar of the Sunni community in Iran introduced a ‘Muslim family’ in his words, saying, “A pious family thinks of the mortal and immortal lives of children. Today’s world is the world of competition; we should be pioneers in piety, good deeds as well as education. There are many families which have sent their all children to university equipping them with different proficiencies in various areas; it is very good step.”

“On the other hand, there are some parents who have left their children free. They are careless about their faith, acts and education, too. Such children are real orphans who have lost the mercy of parents. Giving importance to the education and edification of children is the symbol of parents’ ruth and mercy,” Shaikh Abdol-Hamid made it clear.

He called on the audience to focus more on ‘moral, manner and upbringing’ of children. Khateeb and Friday imam of Sunnis said, “I hope people will welcome warmly Islamic seminaries and schools and universities in order to make the future of their children better.”
