Considering “the correct training and upbringing” as the best gift that parents can give to their children, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid in the ceremony of this week in Zahedan pointed out to some rights of children upon parents in Islam.

The Friday Imam of Sunnis in Zahedan, Iran remarked on Friday 11 August, 2016: “Islam is a quite comprehensive and inclusive religion. The difference of Islam with other religions is that it has productive plans for all aspects of life. In addition to the rights of Allah and individual worships, a large part of rulings in Islam belongs to rights of people including transactions and intercommunications.”

He added more: “Apart from faith, beliefs and worships which reinforce the spiritual dimension of human, Islam widely urges on human rights. According to the teachings of Islam, a Muslim should respect the rights of all humans as a human and the rights of all Muslims as a Muslim”.

The Friday Imam of Sunnis in Zahedan said: “In Islam, parents have some rights upon children and children have some rights upon parents, too. According to a Hadith, when a baby is born in a family, Athân must be announced in his/her right ear and then Iqâmah must be declared in his/her left ear; it is for that the greatness of Allah to be announced in the ears of a baby before everything and so he/she will be protected against the Satanic temptations”.

He more said: “The other recommendation of Qur’an and Sunnah about baby is that a nice name should be selected for him/her and an Aqeeqah should be slaughtered for him/her on the 7th of his/her birthday. We should choose a good name for children from the names of prophets, the Companions, other saints or every name that has a good meaning. It is also the recommendation of Islam that happiness should be expressed at the birth time of a child whether the baby is a boy or a daughter”.

The Friday Imam of Sunnis in Zahedan called “good behavior with children” one of the other orders of Islam and said: “Do not humiliate your children but you should treat them with kindness and love. You should equally show affection with daughters and boys. If you give a gift to one of them, you should not reject the other one. Parents should teach them the correct etiquettes and morals and train them in the best way. The proper training is the best gift that parents can give to their children. Children must learn how to live in the world. You should teach your children how to get prepared for the Hereafter as well as how to manage their worldly affairs”.

He also called “giving attention to children’s marriage” one of the responsibilities of parents and expressed: “When boys and girls reach to the age of maturity and there is an appropriate suitor, we should try to make them married. If a child commits a sin after the age of the puberty, father will have a share in the sin, too. In today’s conditions where many satellite TV channels and websites seek to promote licentiousness and nudity in the society, giving attention to children’s marriage is the best way to protect them against sins and depravity. It is recommended to not allow daughters’’ marriage before their maturity; because thanks to the fact that nowadays people live a machinery life as well as the growth and strength of children is not ideal, haste in girls’ marriage, sometimes, entails complications and problems”.

Emphasizing on “holding the wedding ceremony according to the rulings of Shari’ah” Mawlana Abdol-Hamid said: “Marriage parties and wedding ceremonies must be held according to the directions of Shari’ah. Nowadays, there are some illegal acts are carried out in the ceremonies of Muslims which are related to the age of ignorance or the Western culture. In this regard, Islam recommends that dowry and waleemah should be according to afford”.

At the end, he said: “Holding collective wedding that reduces expenses is a very good and appropriate method. It should be avoided from any instruments of misdeeds. Dancing and music with singing are forbidden and the money is spent for such items is forbidden, too; the person will be questioned and punished on the Resurrection Day”.
