Shaikh Abdol-Hamid:
Those Who Killed People, Polarized the Society

In a meeting with the top scholars of Iranshahr and Bampur counties of Iranian Balochistan, the most influential Iranian Sunni leader reacted to the allegations of one top provincial official that some pursue to polarize and insecure the society. He called such claims false and untruth and believed that those who killed innocent people, created fear and insecurity in the society.

The meeting was held at Darululoom Zahedan in the office of Shaikh Abdol-Hamid on Monday, May 1, 2023.

While welcoming the guests, the Friday prayer leader of Sunnis in Zahedan said: “Some [officials] have said that after the recent events in Zahedan, some wanted to polarize and insecure the region, but they did not succeed. These are unjust words. We did not seek to make the province insecure, but those who killed our people unjustly made the province insecure. They targeted people in the Musalla with at least 50,000 worshipers on Friday.”

Mawlana Abdol-Hamid continued: “On that Friday (30 Sep. 2022), while the shooting was still going on at people and the reporters of the state-run media did not dare to come, our people brought the reporters with them and I asked the people in a televised message to maintain security of the province until the case is clarified.”

“I urged on peace and maintaining law and order while I did not know who shot our people and why?” he added more.

“Scholars and tribal elders worked hard to maintain the security of the region and did not allow armed groups to enter the city and fight. We were pursuing to maintain the security and those who killed our people were looking to insecure the region”, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid further said.

“Some tribal elders have counseled with us to participate in the meetings of officials or not? I said that we will not prevent anyone to have connection with them, but those who participate in these meetings should tell the facts and truth and raise the demands of the people,” said the president of Darululoom Zahedan.

We did not raise the issue of the bloody Friday incident to other countries
“The Bloody Friday incident of Zahedan was shocking, but we did not resort to other countries (to solve this problem), while many friends and scholars abroad, especially in Afghanistan and Pakistan and some Arab countries complained why you did not raise the issue with us”, said the Iranian top Sunni leader in a meeting with the scholars of Iranshahr.

He further said: “We believe that they created this incident because we have been raising the demands of the people from this tribune in the framework of logic and reason. We have already raised the problems that Sunnis have been suffering from, for so many years. We raised the problems of Kurdish areas and criticized the closure of prayer houses in Mashhad and Tehran and other cities.”

“In my latest trip to Tehran before the Bloody Friday incident, I criticized the officials that why the Sunnis do not have religious freedoms? The Sunni citizens participated in the elections and voted for the current president, but their demands are still unanswered, why? They promised us to solve our problems, but the problems increased. Why you interfere in the Sunnis’ religious affairs? I believe that some do not want to hear the voice of Sunnis,” said the top Iranian Baloch leader.

Shaikh Abdol-Hamid insisted that the clerics should maintain their independence and always defend the truth and be with people.

If arresting us solves people’s problems, imprison us
Following the recent arrests of Darululoom Zahedan’s some teachers, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid said: “If the problems can be solved by arresting the people, take all of us in prison. In a matter of fact, the problems will not be solved in crackdown and imprisoning. There must be wise and effective measures to solve the basic problems of the country and to change the foreign and domestic policies.”

He said: “I said last Friday that when some officials are against the referendum, and they know the result of such a referendum, then they should sit with the people and listen to them. Reform or change yourself, because the people are important, and these people put the officials in charge.”

At the end of this meeting, Mawlana Abdol-Hamid also mentioned “Labor’s Day” and while congratulating this day, he said: “We are sorry that today dear workers are helpless, and they cannot even afford the bread.”
He pointed out: “The workers have been protesting because of their problems and hunger.”
