The Sunni Fraction of the Iranian Majlis (parliament) has met with the prominent Islamic scholar in Tehran exchanging views on different issues about the Sunni community.

The official website of the Sunni community (sunnionline.us) reported, more than 20 Sunni members of the parliament met Shaikh Abdol-Hamid in Tehran on Sunday 23rd Oct. 2016. Apart from them, some elite members of the Sunni community in the Iranian capital also took part in the meeting.

Addressing the MPs, Mawlana Abdol-Hamid has called on them to be the voice of people struggling to resolve their problems.

Alluding to some problems of the Sunni community, he said, “The capable members of the Sunni community have not been engaged in the state offices and organizations as they deserve.”

“As far as the religious freedom is concerned, the Sunni citizens also face obstacles and there should be serious efforts to remove them,” the rector of Darululoom Zahedan underlined.

Before the speech of Shaikh Abdol-Hamid, some MPs talked to the audience representing the fraction. They urged on the national unity and Islamic fraternity.

The representatives of the Iranian Sunnis in the parliament urged on the current government to respond to the honesty of the community fairly. They should be engaged in the cabinet and governing body nationally and provincially.

The Iranian Sunni community has been suffering from discrimination policies for years. For the first time a Sunni citizen of Iran was appointed as the ambassador of Iran to a country in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran. There has not been any Sunni minister yet.
