The prominent Iranian Sunni scholar urged Iranian Sunnis should not face obstacles and restrictions on own Eid prayers.

Talking to tens of thousands worshipers at the 29th night of Ramadan, 6th July, 2016 in Zahedan, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid said, “Eid al-Fitr is near and there are anxieties in some regions about holding own Eid prayers.”

“We recommend the authorities and elders of the country that there must not be any kind of obstacles for Eid prayers for Sunnis. According to the Islamic Shari’ah and the constitution, we are free to establish our own prayers,” he underlined.

The rector of Darululoom Zahedan said, “Shias are in majority in Iran; they should allow their Sunni brothers to offer prayers freely in their prayer-houses. In Russia and other states which were previously ruled by the Communists, people are free in their religious affairs. Even Muslims can offer prayers on roads and parks. Iran is a Muslim state and we expect to see more freedom here.”

He said, “We do not want to see others mentioning the names of officials that they do not allow Sunnis to offer prayers! It is not logic in the ongoing sensitive situation to ban on prayers of people and tell them the sin is on our shoulder.”

It is noteworthy that Sunnis in Iran, who are about 20% of the whole population in Iran, have been facing troubles by police and security forces to establish their own prayers in metropolises.
