The Friday Imam of Sunnis in Zahedan, Iran shed light on some aspects of the uprising of Hussein bin Ali in his sermon of 23rd Oct. 2015, terming his martyrdom a ‘respectful death’.
Shaikh Abdol-Hamid pointed out to the status of Hassan and Hussein, the two sons of Ali and Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with all of them, saying: “The prophet, peace be upon him, loved his grandsons a lot. Once the Messenger of Allah took Hassan in his hug and said the Almighty would reconcile between two big groups of Muslims by him (Hassan). He did so after the martyrdom of his father, giving the rule to Moawiah, may Allah be pleased with him.”
“Hassan and Hussein, may Allah be pleased with them, were so similar to their father and grandfather in morals, attitude and knowledge. They had the brevity, graciousness and piety of the prophet, peace be upon him, and their parents.”
The rector of Darululoom Zahedan briefly shed light on Karbala incident and said, “When Hussein bin Ali saw the rule on Muslims had been fallen in the hands of incompetent, incapable and weak people, he left Madinah and headed to Kufa. He wanted to save the faith and honor of people.”
Mawlana Abdol-Hamid further said, “When Sayyidana Hussein reached the desert of Karbala, he came to know the people of Kufa had broken their pledge to him and killed his messenger and representative, Muslim, just for the worldly benefits and alliance with the power-holders. So he asked them to allow him either to negotiate with Yazid or to return Madinah along with his comrades, but they denied to accept his proposals asking him to surrender. But Imam Hussein considered surrender a humiliation and preferred fight until martyrdom.”
“The army of Yazid committed crimes in the desert of Karbala and martyred Imam Hussein and his comrades that burn the heart. But the men who killed Imam Hussein for temporal benefits of the world were eliminated with dishonor and ignominy. Ubaidullah bin Ziad, Shemr and others did not obtain their goals and died soon. Those who shed the blood of innocents for gaining power and worldly tools, they do not obtain their goals.”
He urged, “Hussein taught us the lesson of honor and freedom as he and his companions preferred honorable death to humiliation.”
Followers of Hussein and Yazid represent them still
In another part of his speech, the outstanding Islamic scholar alluded to the ‘Husseinis’ and ‘Yazidis’ of this time and said, “Still there are some people who are ‘Husseinis’ and some others are ‘Yazidis’ and the followers of him in shedding blood for power and rule. Those who neglect justice and kill pious people, they are on the path of Yazid and followers of Hussein are on the path of Sunnah, and the way of the companions and the households of the prophet, peace be upon him.”
“There is no use of calling ourselves by surnames like ‘Alawi’, ‘Omari’, ‘Osmani’ and ‘Husseini’, rather we should imitate their footprints and bring their teachings in our lives. The followers of Sunnah, who go on the path of justice and fight against cruelty, are close to the prophet, his companions and households,” he added more.
At the end of his speech, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid reminded saying, “The remembrance of the great companions and households should not be restricted to their martyrdom and birth anniversaries, but they should be remembered in the whole year acting upon their good deeds. As the companions and households of the Prophet, peace be upon him, had fraternity and solidarity among them, we should also have fraternity.”
