In a letter to Abdullah Ibn Abdul-Aziz, king of Saudi Arabia, Shaikh-ul-Islam Mawlana Abdol-Hamid asked him to cancel the issued sentence against “Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr”, one of the prominent Shia clerics in Saudi Arabia.

According to the office of the Friday Imam of Sunnis in Zahedan, Mawlana Abdol-Hamid, the most influential Iranian Sunni leader, indicated to the critical situation of the Muslim world in his letter counting “unity” and “fraternity” among the main needs of Muslim Ummah.

He termed “cooperation”, and “wisdom and foresight” the ways leading Muslims to those two important goals.

Addressing the king of Saudi Arabia in a part of his letter, Friday Imam of Sunnis in Zahedan stated: “The enemies of Islam always look up opportunities to exploit them against Muslims and they just want to add fuel to fires in the Muslim states. Thus, I would like to call you -on behalf of the Iranian Sunni scholars and elites- to stop the execution sentence of “Sheikh Nimr Baqir Nimr” by applying your royal special authority”.

Mawlana Abdol-Hamid has underlined: “This step [cancellation of capital punishment] would end up with “strengthening unity and fraternity among Muslims.”

The member of the International Union for Muslim Scholars concluded: “Undoubtedly, cancellation of this sentence by you will lead to some absolute positive results; it will further fortify the glance of friendship and fraternity. As well as, this order will eliminate the evil plans of our sinister enemies who seek to ignite the fire of religious conflicts among Muslims”.
