Shaikh Abdol-Hamid urged on the necessity of the self-purification and human spirit in the Friday sermon of May 30, 2014 in Zahedan, southeastern Iran.

Sunnis’ Khateeb in Zahedan began his speech by the Noble Qur’anic verse: «يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ*إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ» , (The Day when neither wealth will be of any use (to any one) nor sons, except to him who will come to Allah with a sound heart,); [26: 88-89] and said, “When a man is born, he is crude, then he should work hard and struggle to obtain a high position and piety.”

He further said, “Human beings are so capable. According to Hadith mankind are mines of gold and silver. None of mines have pure gold; gold and silver can be found with the mixture of stone, dust and other things. If somebody wants pure gold, he should have a kiln to make the gold pure and clean of dirt. From tons of mines he may get only some gold, but that gold has lots of worth and a high price. Mankind are also very valuable when they are purified and clean. They can get a high position by purification of the spirit.”

The eminent Islamic scholar went on to say more, “Arrogance, envy and selfishness are the bad habits which make respect and wealth of others ‘unbearable’ for some people. These are roots of many other defects. Such habits are very dangerous and they may lead people to the Hell. Allah Subhanhu wa Taa’la says: «وَذَرُواْ ظَاهِرَ الإِثْمِ وَبَاطِنَهُ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْسِبُونَ الإِثْمَ سَيُجْزَوْنَ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَقْتَرِفُونَ», (Leave outward sin and inward sin. Surely, those who commit sin shall be punished for what they used to commit.); [6: 120]. All sins should be left back whether they are outward sins like backbiting, lie and abjuration, and inward misdeeds like arrogance, proud, envy, greed and duplicity.”

Emphasizing on adoption of good attributes, Mawlana Abdol-Hamid said, “Planters and farmers cut overflow trees and their useless branches to get more fruits and nourish them well. In the same way, mankind should clean themselves from dirt of moral spots. As well as, we are ordained to rectify our tenets and avoid hypocrisy and associating anyone with Allah. We are ordered to adopt the attitude and moral of the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and the Qur’anic moral. The Noble Qur’an is the book of morals, tenets, ritual commands and history. It is a comprehensive book; it shows the correct path to its reciters and followers.”

“On the Accountability Day, only safe and intact heart benefits mankind. An intact heart is free of arrogance, and other spots like envy, greed, showing off and hypocrisy,” Khateeb of Sunnis reminded the audience.

Alluding to the arrival of the 8th Islamic month, Sha’ban, he said, “The beloved prophet, peace be upon him, used to observe fast in Sha’ban more than other months but Ramadan. Fasting is one of the best worships that plays a key role in purification and reformation of mankind’s self. Thus the Almighty declared this worship ‘obligatory’ in Ramadan. All divine commands are for the purification of the human soul; if we carry out all divine commands and orders, Allah will make us prosperous more than anyone and anything.”

At the end of his speech, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid underlined next to the divine commands and worships, needy people should be supported always but more during Sha’ban and Ramadan.
