Shaikh Abdol-Hamid Isma’eelzahi, one of the top Sunni leaders in Iran, asked the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to stop the execution of 26 Sunni Kurdish prisoners as soon as possible.

In a letter to the Iranian leader, Khateeb of Sunnis in Zahedan requested him to show discretion ‘interfering’ in the matter.

The letter has been sent to him on Thursday, 19 Sep. 2013.

In a part of the letter, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid stated, “The international situation is very anarchic and inflamed, and the determined enemies of Islam have been waiting for any opportunity to create disputes among Muslims.”

Addressing the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the member of the International Union for Muslim Scholars said, “As I know, you are a discreet and foresighted great leader; thus I request you to take care of the national interests of the country and the nation, and intercept mass capital punishment of this huge number of Sunni prisoners. Otherwise, it will affect our interests inside and outside of the country.”

It is noteworthy, a copy of the letter to the leader has been sent to the Iranian president as well to use his influence in the case.

Talking to media, some of the Kurd prisoners urged that they had been detained four years ago during a crackdown on Sunni Islamic scholars and students in Kurdistan of Iran. At least six of them have been hanged while others are in the custody room for execution.
