Khateeb of Ahl-us-Sunnah in Zahedan, Shaikh Abdol-Hameed Ismaeelzahi, started his recent Friday sermon by reciting initial verses of “Al-Alaq” chapter of the noble Qur’an urging on learning Islamic and modern sciences for comprehensive progress.

Counting knowledge one of the great blessings of Allah, he pointed, “If you meditate, the first thing Allah Almighty bestowed to Adam was knowledge. Allah proved to the angels in this way that He had created a creation who would get honor by knowledge; although there was not any lack of worshipping from the angels.”

Talking to tens of thousands in Zahedan, Shaikh further said, “The first verses of the noble Qur’an are about knowledge, reading and learning. Allah addressed our beloved prophet: «إقرأ باسم ربک الذی خلق* خلق الانسان من علق* إقرأ و ربک الأکرم* الذی علم بالقلم», (Read with the name of your Lord who created (every thing), He created man from a clot of blood. Read, and your Lord is the most gracious, who imparted knowledge by means of the pen.) The world was so dark with the dirt of ignorance and misguidance, but the Exalted enlightened it by the light of knowledge and Tawhid.

It has been understood that educated and knowledgeable people are the pioneers of the world, as the Qur’an mentioned the importance of knowledge and pen before every thing. The human society can not progress but by sciences of the religion and modern universities. Outward development can be achieved by the help of modern sciences, while inward advancement and purification of the soul can be obtained by Islamic knowledge. Correct and acceptable tenets are derived from the Islamic sciences, he added more.

The rector of Darululoom Zahedan declared “ignorance” one of the signs of the Resurrection Day, saying illiteracy and ignorance are the worst dangers for human society. Whenever ignorance prevails in the society, unchastity and adultery will break out. A wise and knowledgeable man never commits unchastity acts; fair education teaches people modesty. Such deeds are condemned by wisdom and the regulation, all nations are against adultery and rape unanimously. Recently we saw how people protested rape and murder of a female student in India; however all Indians are not Muslims but modesty is the belief of everyone.

Alluding to the importance of the both sciences, Islamic and modern ones, Khateeb of Sunnis underlined, “If somebody seeks prosperity in the both worlds, it is vital and necessary to get Islamic and modern sciences. Modern sciences are the corner stone for the worldly development and the sciences of the Qur’an and Hadith for spiritual advancement.”

Shaikh Abdol-Hameed reminded his points in inaugural function of an Islamic university in India before Muslims and non-Muslims and said, “I told the audience of a function in India who were scholars and intellectuals that as Muslims and non-Muslims struggled to liberate India, now they should strive for the progress of their country together. Another point I urged on was that many of Muslims think it is enough for us to just get Islamic education, there is no need of modern education; it is a wrong idea! Muslims need both of the sciences so much; without modern education they can not compete others in the world.”

If some Muslims think modern education is sufficient for them; it is also a false view. Muslims can not be needless of the Qur’an and Hadith; they need Islamic education and knowledge. In fact, these two sciences are like two wings for prosperity and advancement in the worldly life and Hereafter, Shaikh underlined.

He addressed students of modern universities stating that students must work hard to learn how to read the Qur’an and what it says besides their routine education. Students of seminaries also need to sit before teachers of modern sciences and seek knowledge from them.

Proper edification of children makes parents respectful
Showing the importance of children’s upbringing and edification, Shaikh pointed children are the most important and greatest wealth of their parents; they are more considerable than their job and other affairs. So parents should bring up their children in a proper way; it makes them respectful and honorable.

Alluding to wave of crimes and misdeeds in the society, Shaikh urged, “Regrettably, drug addiction and other social misdeeds have been prevailed in the country; the Europe-made drugs jeopardy the future of our youths more than past. We should resist this cultural raid and preach Islamic directions. We should return to Islamic teachings and call on our children to offer prayers and avoid bad companies. All classes of the society must play their role to bring an Islamic peaceful atmosphere in the country.”

In another part of his speech, Khateeb of Ahl-us-Sunnah addressed different tribes to make charity funds for poor students of universities. He said every tribe and class should find out talented students of it and provide them all facilities of education inside or outside of the country.

Education Department of Sistan-Baluchistan must review its stances
At the end of his Friday sermon, the eminent Sunni scholar counted the growing number of dropouts in Sistan-Baluchistan misfortune saying, “Unfortunately, our province has a high rate of downfall of students, particularly students of villages mostly can not join universities. I would like to recommend the Education Ministry to fight with this phenomenon by handing over this department in our province to local officials. It is a wrong policy to employ in different cities of the province people of other provinces and regions. Local teachers and officials would work with more sympathy. It is the demand of all Sunnis to get educational departments in their own hands.”
