The eminent Iranian scholar called on the revision of some criminal laws in Iran in the ‘Judiciary Week’ on June 24, 2016.
Talking to tens of thousands worshipers in Zahedan, Iran before the Friday prayers, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid alluded to the presence of the provincial director of the Justice Ministry in the gathering and said, “We are happy to have impartial and fair directors and officers in our province which enjoys diversity in the ethnic and religious communities. It is a blessing of Allah.”
Khateeb of Sunnis in Zahedan pointed out to the week of counter-narcotics in Iran and said, “Narcotics is one of the important crises in our country and the rest of the world. It is a threat to the humanity. Just see an addict to take lesson from their regrettable situation. There is no need of any propaganda and advice if people see the pitiable condition of addicts.”
“There must be serious efforts to get rid of drugs. This problem cannot be resolved only by the security forces and judicial penalties, rather a cultural and a positive public movement can repel the phenomenon,” he underlined.
Demanding ‘revision’ of some judicial decrees in Iran, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid said, “Many of the criminal laws have been derived from the Qur’an and Hadith; no one can argue about them. But many laws and decrees are the results of the views of experts and well-experienced judges. Such decrees are revisable, especially when an Ejtihad or view of an expert does not have the expected result.”
Drug trafficking is a crime with the possible capital punishment in Iran. The number of judicial executions has gone up in recent years.
He termed formation of ‘Reconciliation Councils’, ‘Diyah (blood money) Committee’ and ‘efforts to reform prisoners and teach them the Qur’an’ the most important great works the judiciary in Iran.
Do not miss the opportunities of Ramadan
In another part of his sermon, Khateeb of Sunnis alluded to the last part of Ramadan and the Night of Destiny, saying, “Satan and the exciting self are the biggest enemies of mankind who threat their prosperity. Ammarah self is the worst enemy of human beings.”
“Allah Almighty has presented the projects and rulings of Islam for the prosperity of mankind. One of the important programs for fighting against Satan and the exciting self is the holy month of Ramadan. This is the month in which the Noble Qur’an was revealed. The Night of Destiny is in this month which is better than one thousand months,” he added more.
The rector of Darululoom Zahedan further said, “Fasting is an unexampled worship with amazing influences on the reformation and purification of mankind. Do not miss the days and nights of Ramadan; offer prayers, recite the Qur’an and remember Allah in those days and nights.”
“A narration of Sayyidah Ayishah, may Allah be pleased with her, suggests the prophet, peace be upon him, used to perform I’tikaf in the last ten full days of Ramadan in the mosque. He used to advise others to sit for I’tikaf, too. I’tikaf is for to be away from all activities and just worship Allah and discover the destiny night,” Shaikh Abdol-Hamid pointed out.
In the last part of his sermon, the outstanding Iranian Sunni leader shed light on the status of the fourth caliph, Ali bin Abi-Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, and said, “Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, is the example of piety. The households of the prophets are beloved with all.”
“The respect of Sahabah and the Mothers of the Believers, may Allah be pleased with all of them, should be protected. The statements and the verdict of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei which urge insulting any of the Clean Wives of the prophet PBUH means insulting the prophet himself are good steps in the Islamic unity,” Mawlana said.
