The prominent Iranian Sunni leader welcomed the motto of the new government describing attempts to create violence ‘a big betrayal to the Sunnis of Iran’.

Talking to hundreds of Sunni citizens in Saravan city of the Iranian Baluchistan on Sunday 1st September, 2013, he said, “By the blessings of Allah Almighty, the country is experiencing a good and stable condition. People surprised the world by their high turnout in the recent presidential election. They elected the one who was in accordance with their wishes and needs. Dr. Rouhani (the new Iranian president) also promised in his swearing-in ceremony to remove the ‘state of suffocation’ from the country.”

Shaikh Abdol-Hamid further said that the new president has underlined in many occasions to take care of the rights of all Iranians regardless to their sect and race. He clarified Iran belongs to all Iranians. His ministers are capable and wide-awake, too. But he needs the support of the nation to fulfill his promises.

Alluding to an important issue, he said more, “Whatever president Rouhani says about the rights of different communities, the Sunni community of Iran has been demanding it as well. The president repeats our words. We have been urging on uprooting discrimination in policies and public services. All should gain their due rights fairly.”

The most influential Sunni scholar in Iran called on the officials and local authorities to adjust themselves with the stances of the new government. “It wonders me that some officials have not received the message of the president about ‘hope’ and ‘discretion’. It seems they (officials) do not pay any attention to the new circumstances in the country,’ he added more.

At the end of his speech in the graduation ceremony of “Isha’at-ut-Taweed” seminary in Saravan city, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid invited all sides to benefit from the environment of dialogue and tolerance in Iran. He denounced violent movements in the country calling it ‘betrayal to the Sunnis’.
